Corporation (Japan): first invested in Glydways in May 2024; this additional
investment deepens the manufacturing partnership — Suzuki will produce the
next generation of Glydcars, leveraging its expertise in compact vehicle
manufacturing and efficient, high-quality production. Toshihiro Suzuki
(President): "Glydways' mission resonates with our 'By Your Side'
slogan." ACS Group (Spain): one of the world's largest infrastructure
and construction conglomerates — strategic partner for deploying guideway
infrastructure in cities globally. Khosla Ventures (Silicon Valley): led by
Vinod Khosla, who sits on the Glydways board and has stated that Glydways —
not robotaxis — is the better urban mobility solution. Obayashi Corporation
(Japan): new investor; leading general contractor specializing in sustainable
urban infrastructure. Gates Frontier (Bill Gates's investment office):

COMPANY / RECIPIENT Glydways Inc. San
Francisco-based autonomous urban mobility company. Co-CEOs: Mark Seeger
(founder — Dutch-born engineer, former Apple product designer, urban mobility
researcher in Singapore) and co-CEO. Founded 2016. Technology: "Flow
Network" — a system of small, autonomous, electric Glydcars traveling on
dedicated 2-meter-wide guideways at up to 40 km/h. Unlike open-road
self-driving (Waymo, Waymo) or traditional PRT (Personal Rapid Transit),
Glydways uses closed infrastructure to eliminate pedestrian/vehicle conflict
and deliver safety at scale. Key claims: capacity of up to 10,000 people per
hour per lane; infrastructure costs up to 90% lower than traditional rail;
operable at standard public transit fares with positive margins. Current
deployments: Atlanta (under construction, December 2026 opening); New York
area (planned 2026); UAE (MoU with Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Dubai
RTA). Eight global offices. Total funding: $250M+. |
DEAL OVERVIEW
Glydways closed
an oversubscribed $170 million Series C on April 14-15, 2026, co-led by Suzuki
Motor Corporation, ACS Group, and Khosla Ventures. Existing investors Mitsui
Chemicals and Gates Frontier reinvested, and Japanese general contractor
Obayashi Corporation joined as a new investor. The oversubscription reflects
exceptional institutional demand, with the investor group representing vehicle
manufacturing, infrastructure construction, venture capital, and corporate
development across multiple continents. Total funding now exceeds $250 million
at a valuation of approximately $700 million, with Bloomberg reporting Glydways
is already in discussions to raise a further $250 million that would push its
valuation above $1 billion.
The Series C
proceeds will be deployed across three priorities: technology development
(next-generation Glydcars, manufactured by Suzuki in partnership with
Glydways); talent and global infrastructure (expanding to eight offices across
North America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe); and operational
rollout of three 2026 pilot systems. The South Metro Atlanta pilot — a
half-mile guideway connecting the ATL SkyTrain at the Georgia International
Convention Center to the Gateway Center Arena — broke ground in February 2026
and is scheduled to open as a free on-demand public service in December 2026.
The $23 million project is a public-private partnership. MARTA (Metropolitan
Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) plans to study the pilot's performance for
potential regional expansion.
"Glydways is not an evolution of transportation — it's a
fundamentally new model for how cities move. Glydways will be in public
operations this year, showing the public a new way of moving around cities that
is efficient and affordable."
— Mark Seeger,
Founder and Co-CEO, Glydways
WHY BLOOMBERG SHOWS $420M: THE CONTEXT
Bloomberg EQS
records the Glydways deal at $420 million. This figure likely reflects the $170
million Series C combined with the reported discussions for an additional $250
million raise (which would push valuation above $1 billion), or may incorporate
committed future capital from the Suzuki manufacturing partnership. The
confirmed and closed round is $170 million; the Series C is described as
oversubscribed and the $170M figure is from Glydways' official press release of
April 14, 2026. Bloomberg's $420M figure represents the broader investment
mandate including pipeline commitments.
