Kalshi Raises $1B+ at $22B Valuation — Doubling in 90 Days Amid State Regulatory Firestorm

The CFTC-regulated prediction market platform closes its sixth funding round in 18 months — led by Coatue Management and valuing Kalshi at $22 billion, double its December 2025 valuation of $11 billion — even as Arizona files 20 criminal counts against the company and Nevada bans its operations in the state.

COMPANY

Kalshi Inc.

New York-based prediction market platform founded in 2018 by MIT graduates Tarek Mansour (CEO) and Luana Lopes Lara (COO). The first CFTC-regulated prediction market exchange in the U.S. — a Designated Contract Market allowing it to operate nationwide under federal rules rather than state-level gambling regulation. Weekly trading volume now exceeds $1B (up 1,000%+ from 2024). 3,500+ active markets spanning sports, elections, economics, and current events. Total funding raised: >$2.5B across 6 rounds.

DEAL OVERVIEW

Kalshi closed a funding round of more than $1 billion led by Coatue Management on approximately March 19, 2026. The round values Kalshi at $22 billion — double the $11 billion valuation from its December 2025 Series E (led by Paradigm), which itself was double the October 2025 Series D valuation of $5 billion. In total, Kalshi's valuation has increased roughly 4.4x in five months, driven by explosive growth in trading volumes.

The timing is striking: the round closed the same week the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied Kalshi's attempt to prevent a Nevada ban on its operations, and days after Arizona filed 20 criminal counts against the company, alleging it operates an illegal gambling business and offers election wagering in violation of state law. Kalshi and its legal team maintain that CFTC federal jurisdiction pre-empts state gambling regulation — a legal theory that has not yet been definitively adjudicated.

"Kalshi's exponential growth shows the scale of latent demand for prediction markets as a new asset class — from institutions to everyday people. The round reflects our conviction that event contracts are becoming core financial infrastructure."

— Coatue Management

THE BUSINESS: PREDICTION MARKETS AS FINANCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Kalshi operates as a financial exchange — not a gambling platform — where users trade binary yes/no contracts on real-world events. The platform takes a transaction fee (~1.2% of volume) rather than setting odds against users. Because Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated Designated Contract Market, it can operate nationally under federal rules — unlike traditional sportsbooks, which require state-by-state licensing. This regulatory advantage has allowed Kalshi to scale to $1B+ weekly trading volume without the 50-state compliance burden its competitors face.

Monthly trading volume exceeded $10B in February 2026 — 12x its level six months earlier. Annualized revenue is estimated at approximately $1.5 billion, implying the $22 billion valuation is approximately 14-15x revenue. Kalshi recently secured a new license through affiliate Kinetic Markets to offer margin trading to institutional investors, signaling its intention to deepen institutional market-making.
